    Going Global:

    There is so much wonderful work going on across the school this half term, with a focus on learning about other cultures. The artwork that has been inspired by different countries across all the continents is outstanding. The determination of all classes to produce meaningful opportunities for families to come into school to raise funds for our partner school in Sierra Leone – Destiny Grace Academy – is heartwarming. Year 3 have already invited parents in to share an Italian Taster menu and have raised over £190!

    Parents are invited in for the following events:

    Yr 1 – Art Gallery with and original pieces on sale for £1:00 – Parents welcome on Tuesday 11th July  2:45 

    Yr 1 –  Showcasing African instruments and music entry tickets £1:00 – Parents welcome on Tuesday 11th July  2:45 

    EYFS – Arts and Crafts parent and child session – donations please – Parents welcome on Thursday 13th 9:15

    Y6 – We will be selling ice-lollies at Sports Day & Lemonade stand – Friday 14th July – bring your pennies along!

    Y4 – A taste of Japan: Karaoke & nibbles – donations on the door – Parents welcome on Tuesday 18th July 2:00 – 3:15 

     Come along to support your children, and raise funds for Destiny Grace Academy!

    Year 4 pupils are focusing on Japan with their art inspired by Yayoi Kusama. Her artwork is featured in the Manchester International festival – it would be amazing if parents from Year 4 (or any year group) were able to take the children to this event:

    Musicathon:

    We have two fabulous musical events coming up – on Wednesday 12th July (EYFS and KS1) and on Wednesday 19th July (KS2). The pupils, led by the talented Mrs Mirazi, are performing a perfect concert for our families. Please arrive from 9:15 to get the best seat outside! 

    Sports Day:

    You now have the team colours and we welcome parents on Friday 14th – EYFS and Year 1 at 9:30 and KS2 at 1:30

    Free School Meal Holiday Vouchers: 

    For families eligible for holiday meal vouchers, physical vouchers will no longer be issued. A barcode will be issued to your personal email address. Please ensure that we have the correct address on our system.

    Monday 10th, Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th July – dance workshops for all our classes (free of charge) to fit in with our Going Global project


    Monday 10th July – we will share details of who your child’s new teacher will be today


    Tuesday 11th July – At 2:45 our Year 1 and 2 invite their parents in, to celebrate the children’s work and also raise money for our link school, Destiny Grace Academy in Sierra Leone. 

    Year 1 will be showcasing their art in a gallery, and signed pieces will be on sale for £1:00

    Year 2 will be showcasing their African instruments and music (£1 a ticket) 

    Come along to support your children, and raise funds for Destiny Grace Academy!

    Friday 14th July – Sports Day (EYFS and KS1 in the morning and KS2 in the afternoon) Families welcome. The events will kick off at 9:30 and 1:30 respectively and will last about 1.5 hours.


    Friday 14th July – Reports will be handed out today, to include Year 1 phonics results, KS1 results and Year 4 times tables test results. Year 6 SATs results will be shared as soon as they are released. 


    Monday 17th July – Open Day from 3:30 to 5:00. Come along and have a look through your child’s work, and chat to the teacher. Our new teachers will be here too, so that you can come and introduce yourselves. 


    Monday 17th July – Y5 – Art Gallery with art on sale for £1:00 – Parents welcome at  9am


    Tuesday 18th July – Rearranged Going Global: a celebration of cultures. Children are invited to come to school wearing the traditional dress of your home country. It would be lovely to come along with interesting facts to share. Parents are welcome to come along at drop off and pick up wearing traditional dress too.

    Friday 21st July – School closes for the Summer Holiday at 1:00. There will be no Wraparound Club 


     


    Forest School

    Children should come to school on Forest School days in the appropriate clothing and footwear. 

    Please refer to letters previously sent home or ask your child’s teacher for clarification.

    Advance notice – dates for next term

    Wednesday 6th September: School starts for all pupils from Years 1 through to Year 6 on 

    Reminder – please arrive at school at 8:45 and the doors will open at 8:50. Late arrival impacts learning and progress. 

    Wednesday 6th September: School starts for our new pupils in Reception on  but there will be a phased introduction – details of this will be shared with our new families in July. 

    Monday 11th September: our new SENDCo Mrs Topham, will hold ‘drop in’ sessions for parents of children with an EHCP. Invitations have been sent out.

    We will hold ‘Meet the Teacher’ sessions for parents to come into the classroom, and have a briefing from the class teacher. This is a chance to see the classroom, and to be given useful information about the forthcoming year. Please don’t worry if you cannot attend; we will share the PowerPoints afterwards. 

    Years 1 and 2 Meet the Teacher sessions will be on Tuesday 12th September at 9:10

    Year 3 and 4 Meet the Teacher sessions will be on Wednesday 13th September at 9:10

    Year 5 and 6 Meet the Teacher sessions will be on Thursday 14th September at 9:10

    Friday 15th September: The office team will hold ‘drop in’ information sessions for our new parents (from Reception and across school) at 9:15 and 2:45 . This is a chance to ask any questions about payments, bookings, and general information about anything and everything.

  • Our STEM Project​​​​​​​

    Our Year 3 pupils took part in a STEM project run by the Primary Engineers Programme.

    Our staff went on a training day when they worked with engineers to plan the project.

    We were provided with resources and lesson plans and even had an engineer come and work alongside our pupils. Great fun was had by all!

  • Careers Fair

    We held an amazing Careers Fair here at New Islington.

    We had a packed schedule of visitors who talked to pupils, brought in items to try and explore, and answered their questions.

    It was a great day – huge thanks to all of our visitors who gave up their time for us!

    Farmer

    We learnt about the different plants and animals and he told us funny stories about the sheep escaping. 

    Clinical Psychologist with premier league football teams

    I liked learning about how the brain gets full and how Lewis helps to empty it. 

    I liked how Lewis explained how the brain works using a jar and water. 

    Enjoyed hearing from the clinical psychologist as we didn’t realise you could work with football teams like that

    Former GB karate and former GB Taekwondo professional athlete

    I liked that we met a world champion and he was very funny.

    I liked that he has been in some Marvel films. 


    GCHQ

    They cannot tell people about their work because they are spies. 

    I enjoyed learning about all the different jobs that they did.

    We enjoyed coding and interacting with the robots

    Using computers and having the opportunity to try part of the job role in the GCHQ presentation was really fun and engaging


    Autotrader

    She showed us lots of good pictures about her job. 

    I liked the horse drawn tram, it looked very exciting.

    Creative director- music industry

    It was so cool to learn he has worked with Ed Sheeran. 


    Nuclear engineer

    We found listening to the nuclear engineer really interesting as we didn’t know anything about that job role


    Financial services

    Found it really interesting to find out the money you could earn for a range of different jobs and the training needed to do it
