Welcome from Co-op Academy New Islington

Dear Parents/Carers,

It has been a lovely week at New Islington with lots of progress taking place in all of our classes.

One highlight has been a group of our Year 3 and Year 4 children taking part in a Badminton skills workshop at the National Cycling Centre, where they were even interviewed by Newsround and represented our school brilliantly!

We have also sent out some communications regarding the Parent/Headteacher forums for this term. In the past, these have provided valuable insight for the school and we hope to welcome as many parents as possible to one of the three meetings.

As always, thank you for your continued support,

Mr Berry

What a Busy Week!

On Thursday, 10 children from Year 3 and Year 4 attended a Shuttle Stars badminton event organised by Badminton England at the National Cycling Centre. The children got the chance to play badminton in a fun and inclusive environment.

We were very lucky to be contacted by BBC Newsround who wanted our children to participate in a feature that they were recording for one of their programmes. This was a very exciting opportunity that our children took in their stride. As always, well done to the children who took part. We are eagerly looking forward to seeing them on screen. Well done!

Look at our Facebook page to see the post from Badminton England!

Year 4 have been making Viking shields in art this week as part of their topic in Vikings. They will be having a Viking experience day soon which will be a very exciting day for them as they reinact a battle! More details on this will be shared in the coming weeks.

Year 2 created campaign pieces of writing about how to save animals. They took their work to Year 5 to read it to the children and work together on editing the work.

Attendance Matters

Late to school

The school gates are open until 9.00 each morning, after this time, your child is late to school and will need to come in through the main office.

You will be asked to sign your child in at the front desk from 9.05 onwards, stating the reason for lateness. Your child will then have a late mark (L) in the register. If they arrive after 9.30, this is classed as an unauthorised absence for the morning session and is marked as on the register as U. All late marks are monitored and we will ask you to come in for a meeting if your child is persistently late for school.

More details on absences and fines can be found in our attendance policy Policies

Mrs Williams Recommends

The Explorer by Katherine Rundell

This is a lovely book and one I definitely need to revisit again soon.

When Fred, Con, Lila and Little Max’s plane falls out of the sky on their way to Manaus, they must figure out how to survive in the Amazon Rainforest.

Do they wait to be rescued or rescue themselves? As they explore more of the forest in a desperate attempt to get home they see traces of someone who lives in the forest - and then they find the map! But who is this mysterious person and where will the map lead them?

Katherine Rundless is a beautiful writer. Her ability to world build and bring characters to life, can't help but captivate any reader.
