Welcome from Co-op Academy New Islington

Dear Parents/Carers,

We have had so much to celebrate this half-term and this week has been packed full of excitement. As well as our pupils representing the academy in an exemplary fashion on CBBC Newsround, Turing won the half-termly house competition and loved their party.

The academy has continued to make fantastic progress and I can't wait to share some of this success at our upcoming headteacher forums following the half-term break.

We hope you all enjoy the time with your families next week, and Happy New Year to everyone celebrating Chinese New Year.

As always, thank you for your continued support,

Mr Berry

On Wednesday, a group of Year 5 children proudly represented our school in the Connell Maths Cup Challenge. At the event, the children worked in teams to solve a range of creative and engaging maths problems, applying their skills in a fun, collaborative and competitive environment.

Did you spot us on BBC Newsround?

We were extremely lucky to be contacted by the BBC to ask if some of our children would participate in media for Newsround when at the Badminton England Shuttle Stars event. We watched some children from Year 3 and Year 4 speak fantastically on this segment of Newsround. We even watched it as a whole school in assembly! Well done to the children, we have some media stars in the making!

Year 4 began making their final art pieces - clay sculptures inspired by Claes Oldenburg. All the children showed brilliant creativity skills and resilience whilst creating these intricate sculptures.

Year 3 visited the Manchester Museum to look and learn about artefacts from Ancient Egypt and Sudan. Everyone was impressed by the Natural World and wildlife collection, the pre-historic dinosaurs and fossils and the vivarium with beautiful live fish and fascinating exotic amphibians.

Children explored and enjoyed the gallery with colourful exhibits and music entertainment from South Asian and Chinese cultures.

It was a fun-filled day, packed with discoveries and learning. What a treat for all the senses!
