Welcome from Co-op Academy New Islington

Dear Parents/Carers,

It was lovely this week to be able to welcome so many parents into school for Parents Evenings, the Book Fair and our EYFS Coffee morning. As always the engagement with these events has been really positive and reflects our wonderful community.

Our pupils have also shown off their talents in a variety of events such as our Rock Steady concert as well as the Trust Spelling Bee and Poetry Competition, where our children represented their school brilliantly!

As always, thank you for your continued support,

Mr Berry

What a Busy Week!

What a wonderful trip 2SK had at Hulme Community Garden Centre. We investigated different nature such as plants and insects, looking at the eggs that the frogs laid in the pond and planting some peas.

Thank you to the lovely parents and carers who came along to volunteer. We all had such a great time!

STEM club

For our Year 5 and 6 STEM Club this week, after weeks of requests, we have finally done our long awaited Coke and Mentos session! Looking at chemical reactions and nucleation, as well as how a seemingly smooth Mentos is actually incredibly bumpy and filled with gaps was a surprise to the children.

We had a great time doing this and it was definitely one of the best STEM sessions we have had thus far!

For our Year 3 and 4 STEM Club, we had been looking at our problems to look at for our computing challenge. We have split into 2 teams and both teams have settled on the problem of Global Warming as something they want to help solve! What a noble goal from our amazing STEM members!

Year 5 and Year 6 children attended the poetry festival at the Co-op Headquarters at Angel Square today.

It was a really tough competition between selected winning groups from 10 Primary academies across the trust. Our year 5 students won the award for best performance with their poem "Gran can Rap" and our year 6 group won the award for best creative writing with their original poem.

What a fantastic experience – our teams made us so very proud!
