Welcome from Co-op Academy New Islington

Dear Parents and Carers,

As the end of the Spring term draws near, I would like to thank all the staff, pupils and parents that make our community such a special place.

This week we have had exceptional Rock Steady concerts for our parents and our year 5 and 6 footballers won multiple trophies at a Fairtrade Football tournament. We have such a wealth of talent at our academy!

It was also lovely to welcome parents to our uniform coffee morning and listen to your views on upcoming changes. We will continue to see opportunities to engage positively and hear your voice at every opportunity.

As always, thank you for your continued support,

Mr Berry

Well done everyone for their hard work this half-term and congratulations once again!

Easter Egg Competition

It’s time to get cracking! We are excited to announce our Decorate an Egg competition.

If your child would like to enter, please note the following:

  • When: Bring entries into school on the morning of Thursday, April 2nd.

  • The Rule: Entries must use a real egg (we recommend hard-boiled eggs to avoid any messy accidents!).

  • Prizes: Awards will be given to the most creative and original designs.

We can’t wait to see what the children come up with!

We are excited to share a lovely opportunity for our pupils to take part in a birthday card competition celebrating the 80th birthday of author Michael Rosen!

Children are invited to design their own A5 birthday card, including:

- The number 80

- A message for Michael inside

- Pupil name, age and school on the back page, so we know who has created it

There are prizes to be won, including signed books!

You can find full details here: Birthday card competition

We would love as many children from our school as possible to take part.

If your child creates a card at home, please send us a photo of their design – we would love to celebrate their work on our school website and social media.

A team from Year 5 and Year 6 went to the Fair Trade football event at Co-op Academy Belle Vue this week. Despite a few transport delays, the team remained positive and came back with 2 trophies!

The yellow team won first place and the green team won second place.

We will need a bigger trophy cabinet soon! Well done team!

Co-op Academy New Islington
Last September, Year 6 children came up with the fantastic idea to plant green walls on our school as part of our RHS-initiated National Education Nature Park programme. The RHS kindly have granted our academy with £5,000.00, for us to take action and enhance biodiversity in our inner-city school ground. Equipment for 20 square meters of green wall have been provided by Wonderwall, the best local company for living walls with an outstanding international reputation. With the support of Mrs Mirazi, children from all year groups have got their hands dirty, planting up just under 1000 easy-maintenance, perennial woodland plants on 4 separate green wall panels on the outside of our school building. A real success and reason to celebrate cleaner and cooler air, more greenery and biodiversity for the years to come. Special thanks goes to Natasha Devoe, who has supported this project with so much care and dedication, investing plenty of her time, providing us with her expert knowledge and lending a helping hand in all parts of the project on a voluntary basis.
