Dear Parents and Carers,

As we reach the end of the first Summer half-term, we would like to thank all members of the New Islington Community who make our school so special. The final 7 weeks of the academic year will be packed full of events, performances and celebrations. We can't wait to share them all with you.

We would also like to wish everyone a wonderful break, and Eid Mubarak to the members of our community who will be celebrating! We hope you enjoy the time with your friends and family.

Eid Mubarak

We had a special guest in for assembly this week. Sheikh Hamad from Didsbury Mosque came in to talk about the 5 pillars of Islam and the importance of Eid which will be celebrated by Muslims next week.

Thank you for coming in to speak with our children.

What a Busy Week!

Our new library will be filled with lots of new books soon. We are so excited to have this beautiful library fully open for our children to enjoy.

Thank you to Georgina, our community pioneer, for all her hard work raising funds for the books.

Year 5 and 6 took part in a STEM workshop this week. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.

The Education Roadshow sparked curiosity, creativity and ambition across Years 5 and 6. Pupils explored materials science in a fast-paced, interactive production: Material World – Engineering the Future.

Delivered by hi-impact and Altru Drama, education engagement specialists, this exciting performance blended live theatre, science and storytelling to make STEM unforgettable.

The Education Roadshow connected classroom learning with real-world applications, helping pupils see why STEM subjects matter. The children:

-Discovered how everyday materials drive cutting-edge technology.

-Saw STEM in action across engineering, manufacturing, technology and aerospace.

-Understood how creativity and problem-solving fuel innovation.

-Were inspired by real career pathways.

This week, Year 5 engaged in a project which involved reworking and embellishing pre-loved t-shirts to create a large-scale, collaborative art installation that will be presented at Manchester Fashion Week 2026.

As part of this, Stitched Up delivered a presentation on the global impact of the fashion industry on people and the planet, introducing key themes around sustainability, reuse and circularity.

The children then explored creative responses - designing and embellishing t-shirts with messages that reflect how they believe fashion should evolve in the future. This included quotes, imagery, or statements centred on sustainability, identity and change.

The final outcome will see all t-shirts stitched together by students at the University of Manchester to form a powerful large-scale installation - The Universal Tee of Life - symbolising one of the most worn garments globally, and amplifying the collective voice of young people shaping the future of fashion.

We will let you know details of where and when you will be able to see their work on display as part of Manchester Fashion Week after half term.
