Welcome from Co-op Academy New Islington

Dear Parents and Carers,

I have so many congratulations this week it's hard to know where to start!

Firstly, massive congratulations to Kai (Y5) and Mia (Y4) who represented our school magnificently in reaching the final four of the Co-op Young Musician of the Year competition. Mia took home a trophy for her wonderful singing performance and Kai's Cello performance was also outstanding. A huge achievement for both children.

Our Year 6 children have begun their end of year performances and anyone that's seen it so far can attest to it being another wonderful production.

Massive thank you goes to Miss Ballentine for organising another successful sports day. Winners are being announced in assembly today!

Also, a giant thank you to Miss O'Mahony and our parent community for organising another brilliant Summer Fair raising lots of funds that will go straight back into improving our school. The total raised is £1473.00

ANOTHER thank you to our year 4 pupils who will be representing our school on Blue Peter today, we hope they have had a great time.

Finally, good luck to our school choir, who will be performing at Rochdale Town Hall this evening for the annual Co-op Recognition Awards. I can't wait to be in the audience!

As always, thank you for your continued support,

Mr Berry

In DT, Year 5 have been focusing on how a solar system nightlight requires an internal electrical circuit to work. To explore this, we built our own physical circuits in class, and then used a coding program to design and simulate how a digital nightlight would operate.

We would like to congratulate Maya in Year 6 who has recently raised £216 through a charity and Gofundme, which will pay for one child in Uganda to attend school for one year as education is not free there. Well done Maya

Year 6 had their first performances of their end-of-year show The Jungle Book. The children showed off all of their hard work by learning lines and performing in front of an audience. Children, staff and parents commented on how fantastic the performance was!

Well done Year 6!

Some Year 4 children were lucky enough to be invited to BBC studios as part of the audience for Blue Peter.

It was a fantastic experience for all involved, meeting the presenters, including Henry the Dog, and seeing how a TV studio operates.

Our children behaved impeccably and thoroughly enjoyed the day.

Keep your eyes peeled for the show in October!

Yearly Highlights

Reception

We have had a very busy year in Reception. We have all experienced lots of changes and the Bumblebees even had a new teacher!

The staff are all so proud of how much progress the children have made. We have some wonderful readers and mathematicians!

We had a great time at our Jack and the Beanstalk workshop and we have particularly enjoyed paddling in the water trays during the hot weather we have experienced!

Some of our favourite books have been: Supertato and Somebody Swallowed Stanley.

Our most popular area of the classroom has been the art studio where some of us have done some wonderful junk modelling and painting!

We wish everyone lots of luck with all the wonderful learning ahead in Year 1.

Year 1

Year 1 have had a fantastic year and they have learnt many new skills.

They've been recipe developers and developed their own smoothies alongside Innocent Smoothie company, explored their local area of New Islington Marina and looked at all the different amenities we have in our vicinity.

They have become writers and readers developing their confidence and they have even started to publish their work.

We have had such a lovely year and we hope you all have a lovely summer.

Miss Dempsey and Miss Ellison

Year 2

Year 2 have had a fantastic year full of exciting learning experiences, enrichment opportunities and memorable moments. Throughout the year, the children have explored a range of topics across the curriculum, developing their knowledge, creativity and confidence. They have enjoyed practical experiences, including their visit to Hulme Garden Centre, where they explored plants, nature and the importance of caring for our environment.

The children have also taken part in a range of enrichment activities, including Forest School sessions, Zoom reading events and TT Rock Stars competitions, where they have challenged themselves and celebrated their achievements. It has been wonderful to see their confidence, independence and resilience grow throughout the year.

We are incredibly proud of everything Year 2 have achieved and how brilliantly they have represented Co-op Academy New Islington. We wish them the very best as they move into Year 3 and their next exciting chapter. Have a fantastic Summer Holiday, Year 2 - enjoy a well-deserved rest, make lots of wonderful memories and continue to be amazing!

Mrs Mazur & Mrs Khan

Year 3

Year 3 have had a brilliant year this year. We enjoyed a fabulous trip to Manchester Museum in the Spring, bringing our Ancient Egypt topic to life. Some of our children represented the school at a Manchester City Football Tournament earlier in the year and a couple of our children appeared on television at a badminton tournament! Future sporting stars!

We recently took part in a super sports day where the children showed great teamwork and resilience.

Best of luck in year 4 everyone! You will be amazing as always

From Mrs Holt, Mr Nightingale and Miss Peeks

Year 4

It has been an amazing year, packed with new challenges. The children have been amazing and risen to each challenge throughout the year and their positivity in class has been incredible.

The children have demonstrated the school values of 'show you care' consistently, through their friendships, work ethic and curiosity. This has made it a genuinely exciting year.

We particularly enjoyed our history and art topics and had class discussions based on these themes.

We have been on trips, including the Pankhurst museum and had a visit from Olaf the Viking! We ended the year with a great sports day, and it has been wonderful to see how the children have grown in their skills and confidence at swimming.

The children have earned a well deserved break and we wish you all a safe and happy summer holiday.

Good luck in Year 5

Mr Fidgeon and Mr Jackson

Year 5

Year 5 have worked extremely hard this year, and enjoyed lots of exciting fun! We have been lucky to host visitors and to be invited to events, as well as Forest School!

In the classroom, the children have shown fantastic enthusiasm for every topic. They worked incredibly hard building miniature theatres in design and technology, explored vast landscapes while learning about North America in geography, and conducted thrilling experiments in our science topic on the properties and changes of materials.

Our highlights have varied from an inspiring visit from a software engineer to watching the brilliant STEM roadshow live. We have taken part in Manchester Fashion Week, and our work was displayed as part of the art exhibition in the event! We competed in a number of exciting sports events, bringing home more medals for New Islington's collection! Finishing off the year with a trip to Jodrell Bank, where our Science learning came to life, has been a lovely and special end to the year!

We are sad to say goodbye to our Year 5's but look forward to seeing them flourish in Year 6.

Well done Year 5! From Miss Wakeling and Miss Cartin

Year 6

Year 6 have managed to fit in lots of different activities throughout the year. From September, we have been lucky to go on a range of trips and host a range of visitors. From visiting Crucial Crew, Connell College, competing in the Go IT project and an ice cream van to celebrate the end of SATs, the list is endless. The highlight of the year has been our Year 6 Residential to Winmarleigh Hall. From vertical climbing, team building and raft building, the memories made were for life.

Finishing off the year by performing The Jungle Book has been nothing short of special.

We are sad to say goodbye to this Year 6 cohort as they have represented the school so well, from trips to sporting events and competitions. We will miss you all dearly, and thank you for your contributions to New Islington. Well done and good luck in your next chapter!

Miss Bowers and Miss Ballentine
