Welcome from Co-op Academy New Islington

Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been delightful to welcome back our community this week following the Summer holidays. We hope that you all had a wonderful break and are as raring to go for the new year as we are at New Islington! It has been a brilliant first week and we are so impressed with how quickly the children have settled back into their routines.

I would like to extend my thanks to some staff members who will soon be departing. Miss Santana will be leaving the school today and Miss Mirazi will be leaving on the 24th September. Both staff members have dedicated years to our school community and I'm sure everyone would join me in thanking them and wishing them the best in their next adventure.

I am also delighted to welcome Miss Judd and Miss Wilkinson to our team. Miss Judd will be teaching in Year 3 and Miss Wilkinson will be working as a teaching assistant in Year 5.

We will shortly be sending out dates for parent meetings and coffee mornings so please keep checking for updates on this.

Dates for your diary

All the term dates can be found on our website

Tuesday 15th and Thursday 17th September- Meet the Teacher- come to your child's classroom after school on either of these dates where the class teacher will be giving a short presentation of 10-15 minutes about what is happening in class this year.

Monday 19th October- flu immunisations- please note there are no green forms this year. Intrahealth will email you regarding consent over the next few weeks.

Friday 30th October- Deadline to apply for a secondary school place for Year 7

Mon 26 - Fri 30th October- Half term holiday

Friday 6th November- School photos day

Monday 16th November- Inset day- school closed

Tuesday 17th- Thursday 19th November- Book Fair after school

Wednesday 18th November- School Health Height and Weight checks for Reception and Year 6- watch out for an email with more information.

Please keep an eye out for our coffee morning calendar which will be sent out next week.

Wraparound Club

We would like to remind you that all sessions for breakfast and after school club need to be booked on Arbor in advance.

Breakfast club must be booked by 5pm the night before.

After school club must be booked by 12.00 midday on the day.

We are not able to accommodate late bookings due to the high numbers of children attending.

Forest School

We will be using Forest School again in the coming weeks once the site has been tidied by the gardeners as it has become overgrown during the summer.

We will let you know the dates for each classes sessions once finalised.

What a Busy Week!

This week, every class has been focussing on settling into the new school year and getting familiar with the new routines and their new teachers. We call this the 'Learn to Learn' week.

They have looked at the three school rules- Ready, Respectful, Safe and know how to demonstrate these in and out of class. Children have also been working on the importance of speaking and listening and how to be a good talk partner. It has been lovely to see how well the children have been working together.

For anyone new to the school, our children are sorted into houses. Our 4 houses are named after significant figures linked to the City of Manchester.

When children earn Dojo points for being Ready, Respectful and Safe, or for using their Skills Builder skills, these contribute towards a house reward at the end of the half term. Each week, in our Friday Celebration assemblies we announce the behaviour and attendance house winners.

This week, we are excited to announce that our first house winners are Sissay for attendance, and Edwards for behaviour!

Well done everyone for such a positive start.
