    Ways of Being Co-op

    he following children have been celebrated in our assemblies, for demonstrating an understanding of our Ways of Being – ‘show that you care’ ‘do what matters most’ ‘be yourself, always’ and ‘succeed together’.

    Music of the week:

    The focus this week has been on our BBC Children in Need choir, who sang so beautifully last week.

    Year 5 auditions for Les Miserables – see email sent out 14.10.22The production is open to students in all year groups from Year 5 & 6, right up to Year 13, taking pupils from all the Co-Op Academies Trust schools. The production will be staged in the theatre at Coop Academy Manchester during the week commencing 10th July 2023. Roving auditions will come to each school throughout November. Auditions will be here at school.To prepare for the auditions, pupils can click on this link  cooplesmis.online which provides more information and resources for students to get to grips with before their auditionWe would encourage as many of our pupils to audition and take part!

    Monday 28th November A photographer will be in all day taking promotional shots for our website, for around school on our photo boards, and for social media. We will only take photos if parental permission has been given. Please look out for the Google Form tomorrow – click the link to your child’s correct class

    Friday 9th December Elfridges – Today is the day that children can exchange their ticket to buy a surprise present. This event was a huge success last year (thanks to one of our parents, Zoe Mills). It is a great way to raise money for our Library project, as well as being great fun for the children. Parents buy a ticket for £5:00 and then the children can choose a present, and wrap it up, so that mums and dads can have a surprise gift! You can buy your tickets now.
    Monday 12th December Year 3 Carols and Poems at Angel Square, starting at 2pm.We are really excited to hold our Year 3 concert at the Co-Op HeadQuarters – the amazing Angel Square. For security reasons, parents will only be allowed to attend with pre-booked tickets. The session will be live streamed for those who cannot attend. Look out for the letter and how to get your ticket in November. 
    Tuesday 13th December Key Stage One Carol Concert at 9:30
    Wednesday 14th December Christmas Dinner day. School will pay for all our pupils to have a Christmas Dinner. Those who usually pay for a school dinner will be credited for this meal. Of course, if your child would prefer their usual packed lunch, they can bring this in as usual.
    Wednesday 14th December Christmas Jumper Day: Children can (if they want to) wear a festive jumper and bring in £1:00 for the charity ‘Mind’. 
    Wednesday 14th December A live orchestral concert, here at school, performed by the Manchester University Orchestra for our pupils in KS2.
    Thursday 15th December Badminton tournament for Years 5&6 – more details to follow
    Thursday 15th December Music Concert at 9:30
    Friday 16th December Christmas Parties for all classes. Children can come to school in their home clothes / party clothes. Teachers will ask for a £1:00 donation from Monday 5th December, so that we can provide party food.
    Friday 16th December Toy day / end of term

  • Thanks for your donations to Mustard Tree!

    Our parents were so generous with their donations to the charity close to our school and close to our hearts – Mustard Tree. Our donations were accepted gratefully. 

    Every year we support the work of Mustard Tree to help them combat and prevent poverty, inequality and homelessness across Greater Manchester.

    We took a group of our pupils to Co-op Academy Failsworth to spend some time in their library. Our pupils LOVED the visit, and we have developed a project planned for ongoing collaboration between our pupils and the Failsworth pupils to support our readers.

    Girls’ Football Team

    Congratulations to our Girls’ Football team who played in a tournament at Co-op Academy North Manchester on Wednesday. They played three matches, winning one (against St Augustines) and drawing two (against Moston Fields and St Lukes) Well done, team!

    As part of our Talk Money Week, one of our parents came in and gave a really interesting talk to our Year 2 pupils.

    She gave an overview of the history of money, and then delved into spending and saving, and how to encourage a healthy approach to having money.

    As part of Talk Money Week, a parent came in to give a presentation to our Year 5 pupils. He explained about his profession as a property developer, talking about the role of investors, about the value of a healthy return on investment, as well as profit and loss.

    Ways of Being

    Music of the week:

    The focus this week has been on traditional folk music, looking at music from Northern Ireland. We also listened to The Last Post to coincide with Remembrance Day. 

    Monday Odd Socks Day:

    Children are welcome to wear odd socks or fancy tights on Monday 14th to mark the start of Anti-bullying week. 

    Friday Pudsey Day:

    On Friday 18th, children can come to school in their home clothes, or spotty clothes to celebrate Children in Need Day. Instead of a financial contribution, we ask that families bring in a donation of food for the Mustard Tree Charity. More details below.

    Digital Safety and WellBeing:

    Co-op Academy New Islington is totally committed to the digital safety and wellbeing of our pupils. As part of this we are running a workshop dedicated to helping parents understand the risks their children face in their online lives and the practical things parents can do to help. 

    Please join an hour-long workshop in which Katherine Howard, Head of Community and Wellbeing at Smoothwall, will provide you with lots of valuable insights and tools.

    Road safety Week:

    Manchester City Council and colleagues from GMP, TFGM and Parking enforcement will be attending on Tuesday the 15th at school drop off and pick up. They will be promoting active travel options in the area and encouraging road safety (as part of Road Safety Week),

    Friday 18th November Year 5 and 6  Drama Performance from a company called Box Clever – focus on Road safety 
    Friday 18th November  A return visit from Rob, to undertake bike maintenance and repairs (plus goodie bags to give away) Rob will be here from 3pm so bring your bikes along for a free make-over. 
    Friday 18th November  EYFS (Reception) Parent Information session – focus on Reading. Miss Streeter will run two 30 minute workshops for parents, followed by a Q&A. The sessions will run at 9:00 and 2:45.
    Please look out for the letter with more details, but pop this date in your diary.
