Our pupils and staff put a huge amount of effort into making the World Book Day celebrations really special.
Thank you, everyone!
To link with our World Book Day celebrations, we held a lovely Book Swap event after school.
Families kindly donated good quality books and from this selection, children could choose a new book.
No cost, no donations, just a chance to share the love of a good book.
Congratulations to our pupils who have been showing a real understanding of the Co-op Ways of Being: Austin, Ione and David, Federico, Christine, Dimir, Primrose, Harvey and a warm welcome to Zayne.
Hopefully by now everyone will have logged onto the system, ready to book your parents evening appointment on Monday from 8am. In case you have yet to do so, the details are:

Teachers across the UK have voted in favour of strike action in a dispute over pay and conditions; but this only involves members of one of several trade unions. To be clear, this is not a dispute about the operation of our school. This strike action will only be taken by members of teaching staff; support staff will not be taking industrial action.
As this strike action is over two days, please read the following information carefully so that you are aware of when your child’s class is closed to pupils or open for pupils.

A huge thank you for your generous donations towards the Turkish Syrian Earthquake Disaster Fund. We have transferred over £550:80 to the Red Cross Disaster appeal. The Year 3 cake sale was a massive success – thank you to everyone involved.
Every year, Co-op Academies Trust carries out an annual survey in all our academies for all parents, after which we review the results and put together action plans to make improvements where needed and do more of the things you tell us are going well. It is a hugely valuable experience and only works if everyone has their say.
This survey is entirely anonymous. Individuals cannot be identified and no attempt will be made to do so – the aim of the questions are to get an overall opinion and to see where we can do better. You do not have to answer all the questions, you are able to leave some blank if you prefer but we ask you to be honest and complete these in order for us to fully understand the wider picture.
You only need to complete the survey once and it closes on Monday 13th March 2023
You can access the survey by using this link (click on it or type it into an address bar):

Every year, Co-op Academies Trust carries out an annual survey in all academies. All pupils across the Trust can complete this survey. We really hope that you will want to have your say in making a difference to how your academy or college runs.
This survey is anonymous and we will not try to identify you. You can be very open and honest, though rude comments about people will be ignored.
Parents – please can you encourage your child to complete this independently? There’s a closing date of Monday 13th March.

Come along after school next week to have a look at the wonderful Scholastic Book Fair. This will be at the back of the hall from 3:30 to 4:00. We are running a cashless system so please bring your mobile phones with you. This year, we will not be accepting cash payments. You will be able to pay by scanning a QR code to pay with your phone on Apple Pay or equivalent. You can also purchase Scholastic gift vouchers, which are available at https://bookfairs.scholastic.co.uk/gift-vouchers.
Once purchased, you will receive the voucher in an email which can be printed and brought to the fair.
For parents who use Wraparound care, you can make use of the gift vouchers available at https://bookfairs.scholastic.co.uk/gift-vouchers and send the printed email to school with your child. Please alert the Wraparound Team that your child has a voucher in their bag.

Friday 3rd March World Book Day Book Swap Information
Parents are invited to drop good quality unwanted children’s books off at the school main office. Please bring these books to the office this afternoon (Thursday) or Friday morning. These will then be sorted by a group of parent volunteers and will be available in the back of the hall from 3:30 to 4pm. Parents and children can come along to choose and take a new book – this is not a fundraising event – it is to share the love of reading.
Children who attend the Wraparound Club will be taken in small groups to the Book Swap event.
Monday 6th March through to Thursday 9th March: Scholastic Book Fair Information
Apologies for incorrect information being sent out earlier this week. The Scholastic Book Fair is a chance for children and parents to peruse a wide range of new books. For more details of payment options please refer to the letter sent on 27th February.
Children who attend Wrapround Club can bring in the pre-paid voucher and will be taken in small groups to the Scholastic Book Fair.
We had a brilliant afternoon where children and parents worked as a team to complete a series of challenges.
They had to make a working parachute, complete a scavenger hunt and lead each other around an obstacle course whilst blindfolded!
It was great to see parents and children really bond, to see them supporting and encouraging each other whilst maintaining a healthy competitive spirit.
This was the first event of its kind – we will certainly do it again. This could not have happened without the hard work and enthusiasm of our amazing team – Miss Morris and Mr Roberts.
Our two Marimba Bands performed to parents as part of our Showcase Assembly this week.
Well done – what a joy to listen to!
Thanks as always to Mrs Mirazi.
Congratulations to: Ashaya, Kasey, Ivy, Levi, Phaedon, Ava and Ophelia, Oliver and Nisha, Laura, Lola, Henry, Layla, Nadeem

We took some of our younger readers to Co-op Academy Failsworth, where they had a wonderful time in the library, enjoying quality time to share and enjoy books with Failsworth students.
Thank you so much Failsworth for welcoming us.
We have set up a chess tournament!
Forty pupils are participating in this tournamet and the levels of focus and concentration are impressive!
The following pupils have demonstrated a good understanding of the Ways of being Co-op: Elijah, Aftaab, Destiny and Alissa. Megha, Abdulla and Ayad. Leven and Elsa. Erin and Sanav, Orion and Stefania, Naila, Kofo and Titilayo. Sirah,. Ace, Jasmine, Junior and Kairo. Jane. Tymek and Minnell.
To coincide with Children’s Mental Health Week, we listened to Pharrell Williams’ ‘Happy’.
To support our Turkish and Syrian community, parents are invited to donate to the relief effort via these links:

On Friday 17th February, children can come to school in home clothes in return for a £1:00 donation to the Red Cross relief effort. If you bring 50p along at the end of the day, there will be a cake sale organised by four pupils in Year 3.
Our pupils will have bespoke science lessons during British Science Week (Starting on March 13th). In addition, it would be fantastic if parents or relatives who work in the world of STEM could come in to talk to the children about their job.
We already have Dr Michael Harris coming in to work with children in Years 5&6, and to talk about his job. His area of expertise is plastics and polymers, and how he is developing a way to recycle these into artificial soil. What an opportunity for our pupils to work alongside a scientist and to ask questions about his profession – a great way to raise aspirations!
Co-op Academy New Islington is totally committed to the digital safety and wellbeing of our pupils. As part of this we are running a workshop dedicated to helping parents understand the risks their children face in their online lives and the practical things parents can do to help. Please join us for this hour long workshop in which Katherine Howard, Head of Community and Wellbeing at Smoothwall will provide you with lots of valuable insights and tools.

Whether you are an author in your spare time or if it is your profession, we would love to meet you!

Our wonderful Year 3s represented us brilliantly in the football tournament at City on Friday, with our experienced footballers standing shoulder to shoulder with those less so. What a team effort, that is what it’s all about, doing what matters most!
We beat William Hulme and St. Barnabas to win our group, and although knocked out by a very powerful Vantage Academy in the second round, we held our heads high and enjoyed every moment of this exciting experience. Nicholas’ goal celebration will long live on in all our memories.
Thanks to Mr. Jackson for organising the event and to the parents who turned out in very high numbers to support us with transport and also to cheer us on.
