On Friday 17th February, children can come to school in home clothes in return for a £1:00 donation to the Red Cross relief effort. If you bring 50p along at the end of the day, there will be a cake sale organised by four pupils in Year 3.

Careers Related Learning:

Our pupils will have bespoke science lessons during British Science Week (Starting on March 13th). In addition, it would be fantastic if parents or relatives who work in the world of STEM could come in to talk to the children about their job.

We already have Dr Michael Harris coming in to work with children in Years 5&6, and to talk about his job. His area of expertise is plastics and polymers, and how he is developing a way to recycle these into artificial soil. What an opportunity for our pupils to work alongside a scientist and to ask questions about his profession – a great way to raise aspirations!

Online Safety:

Co-op Academy New Islington is totally committed to the digital safety and wellbeing of our pupils. As part of this we are running a workshop dedicated to helping parents understand the risks their children face in their online lives and the practical things parents can do to help. Please join us for this hour long workshop in which Katherine Howard, Head of Community and Wellbeing at Smoothwall will provide you with lots of valuable insights and tools.

Including:

  • Information on the latest apps and games your child may have access to.
  • The harmful content your child may be exposed to.
  • How you can help your child to safely navigate online risk.
  • How to access our brand new and FREE Online Safety Hub with dedicated guidance for parents.
  • An introduction to a parental app that allows you to control what your child sees online, if they are at risk, plus other important features.

Workshop Date: Monday 27 February Time: 6.00-7.00pm

World Book Day Friday 3rd March (revised date):

On Friday 3rd March, children can come to school dressed as a book character, and bring the book with them. No football strips please.

To support our Careers Related Learning, it would be fantastic if there are any authors/illustrators/publishers in our school community who would like to come in and talk to the children about their job. Whether you are an author in your spare time or if it is your profession, we would love to meet you!

Please email newislington@coopacademies.co.uk with your details.

We will also have a Book Swap – children can bring to school a book they have read many times, and then swap it for a new book. This Book Swap will be held in the hall at the end of the day – children should bring in unwanted books to school from Monday 27th February.
