Welcome from Co-op Academy New Islington

Dear Parents/Carers,

It has been a wonderful first full week here at New Islington! We have voted in our student councillors, begun our brand new house competition and even held some interviews for student leadership roles. I would also like to thank all staff and pupils for the wonderful behaviour we have seen in classrooms, in corridors and during break times. It has been exceptional.

I am also greatly looking forward to discussing the ongoing progress of the academy with parents next week during the three Headteacher forums. These are a vital way for school leadership to hear your views.

As always, thank you for your continued support,

Mr Berry

Pupil Leadership Roles

This year we have introduced many new pupil leadership roles and would like to introduce our new Head Pupils.

Head Girl - Jamelia

Head Boy - Alan

Deputy Head - Amelia

Congratulations to all 3 who we are sure will be incredible ambassadors for our school.

We were so impressed with the quality of applications for the pupil leadership roles.

There will be more interviews taking place next week, and we will announce the results in the next newsletter.

School Houses

This year we have introduced houses, with members of our school leadership team as house captains.

Our children have been involved in a sorting ceremony this week in their classrooms.

Our houses are named after people who have made positive contributions to Manchester and its community.

Mrs Williams Recommends

The Arrival by Shaun Tan

This book is stunning right from the very first page.

Shaun Tan’s art work cannot help but capture you and keep you hooked into every page of this truly special book.

This classic, wordless graphic novel perfectly expresses what it means to leave your country and your family and start a new life in a new country. Beautifully illustrated with black and white photo realist illustrations, with touches of the fantastical where nothing is quite as it seems.

This book is perfect for exploring themes of immigration and what it feels like to be a refugee.

Perfect to share with ages 9 and above

Flu Immunisations

Most of you have completed and returned your child's flu immunisation form- thank you.

If you have not yet returned it, please do so by Thursday 18th September.

Spare forms are available from the office.

The immunisations are taking place on Monday 13th October

Lost items

We have had a lot of items of clothing and lunch bags go missing this week.

Please remember to clearly label all of your child's belongings so we can help them find their rightful owners.

If you have accidentally taken something home that is not yours, please return it to school.

We understand so many things are similar in size and appearance, so naming them clearly will help everyone.

Thank you for your cooperation.
