Welcome from Co-op Academy New Islington

Dear Parents/Carers,

This week I would like to congratulate Miss Oksana, who will be temporarily leaving us for maternity leave. I'm sure everyone in our community would like to pass on their best wishes during this exciting time and thank her for the support she has provided.

Next week we have our yearly concert at Manchester Grammar school for our Y4 pupils who have been practising hard for their "Now That's What I Call 80s" soundtrack. I'm sure it will be a fantastic event as in previous years.

Our football teams have also begun their fixtures and represented the school in exemplary fashion. We are very proud of the children who have taken part and grateful for the work of Mr Jackson and Miss Ballentine in running sessions.

As always, thank you for your continued support,

Mr Berry

A reminder about the school gates

Please remember that it is very busy around the school gates at the beginning and end of the school day. We appreciate your patience in allowing people in and out of the gates to avoid congestion at these busy times.

May we please request you not ride bikes until clear of the gates and be mindful of wheelchairs, prams and young children.

Thank you for your co-operation in keeping everyone safe.

London Trip

{item_alt_tag}

Letters will be sent out next week to children in Year 4/5/6 regarding the trip to the Houses of Parliament in London that is taking place in November.

Letters will be sent home in envelopes next week with children. These need to be returned by Monday 20th October to your child's teacher. These will then go into a ballot and names will be picked at random. If your child took part last year, they will not get a letter due to limited spaces.

The trip was a great success last year and we are delighted to be able to offer the experience again.

After School Club

Please remember that sessions for After School Club must be booked on Arbor by 12.00 on the day.

Breakfast Club must be booked by 5.00pm the night before.

This is to allow accurate staffing levels and that enough food is prepared. Late bookings may be refused.

Do you have any unwanted games, toys, craft materials or puzzles that After School club could use?

We would welcome all donations, but please no soft toys.

Thank you

What a Busy Week!

Recently in our science lessons, year 4 explored our amazing forest school to investigate living things. They recorded the data of what they found, then discussed how this is different during different seasons of the year.

Great scientific work, Year 4!

Year 6 spent Tuesday afternoon in Forest School.

We linked our learning to our previous science lesson by looking for flowering and non-flowering plants. The children worked in small groups to find examples in our own school environment.

Well done Year 6!

Mrs Williams Recommends

Stone Age Boy by Satoshi Kitamura

How would it feel to trip over one day and fall into a world that existed 20,000 years ago? Well, that's exactly what happens to the young boy in this book.

Far from being distressed by his experience, he makes friends with a young girl and is welcomed into her family camp where he learns how to make fire, make tools, hunt, cook and prepare animal skins – all with implements made of wood, stone and bone.

This beautifully illustrated book is packed with fascinating facts about the Stone Age. It was a very popular book with my year 3 class, especially when we were working on the Stone Age.

Perfect for age 7 and above
