Welcome from Co-op Academy New Islington

Dear Parents/Carers,

It has been a wonderful week at New islington and I'd like to make special mention to our Year 4 pupils who represented the school in exemplary fashion at the concert at Manchester Grammar School on Thursday evening. Thank you to all the members of our community who attended and all the volunteer staff who helped make it a memorable event.

Next week is our final week of the first half term where for the first time we will be awarding one of our houses a prize for all the children in it. The introduction of our house system has been a huge success so far and we are delighted with the commitment being shown by our children. Every week is neck and neck!

As always, thank you for your continued support,

Mr Berry

Congratulations!

11 of our pupils took part in the Summer Reading Challenge from their local library. They have read at least 6 books over the summer holiday, which is a fantastic achievement. They will be getting their certificates in assembly this week.

Well done to Sanvika, Irene, Esmee, Maryam, Alexander, Hugo, Rio, George, Amahle, Nishan and Rosie.

Congratulations to Mrs Holt who ran the Manchester Half Marathon last weekend.

She ran 13.1 miles

Here is her medal, which is well deserved!

Sports News

This week, our girls football team competed in their second tornament . They played really well and are continuing to improve with each game. Well done girls!

Reminder- if anyone has items of the school football kit, please can they be returned as soon as possible. We are very low on kit and this impacts the number of children we can have representing the school football teams. Thank you.

School Photos- Friday 24th October

The children will be having individual school photos taken on Friday 24th October. At the end of the day, your child will bring home a slip with a QR code with which you can order photos. They make an ideal Christmas present for the family!

Please make sure your child is in school uniform. If they have PE or Forest School, they can bring their kit to change into.

You are able to bring in your child's siblings for a group photo between 8.00-9.00 on Friday morning.

What a Busy Week!

Year 3 had a wonderful art afternoon using oil pastels and charcoal to create Gestural Art. They went out onto the playground and used body movements to create artwork based on the work of Heather Hansen

Year 4 concert at Manchester Grammar School

Well done to all of Year 4 who took part in the multi-school singing event at Manchester Grammar School on Thursday. The children sang a selection of 80's songs and we were delighted with their fine voices and excellent behaviour. They handled their long day very well and deserve a rest this weekend!

House Leaderboard

{item_alt_tag}

As you know we have introduced houses as part of our positive behaviour policy. Each half term the winning house will earn a reward. The school council will be leading on what these rewards are across the year.

Congratulations to the pupils in Sissay who are the winning house with the most Dojos this half term.

As a reward the children in Sissay house are able to come into school in non-uniform on Wednesday 22nd October. There will be a party for these children in the afternoon. One for EYFS and Key stage 1 and then another for Key stage 2.

Well done to everyone for all their hard work this half term and congratulations once again to Sissay!

Mrs Williams Recommends

Zoo by Anthony Browne

I think one of the things that makes Anthony Browne's books special are the illustrations and this one does not fail to deliver. From Dad’s laughing face to the haunting illustration of the Orangutan staring at the wall in the zoo.

The family have a trip to the zoo and soon it becomes apparent that the animals are really unhappy. This book is filled with opportunities to talk about feelings and the ethics around animals in captivity.

This is a book to share from age 5 and above. Older children will be able to explore a lot of the themes in the book also.
