Inset Day

School is closed on Monday 10th November for an inset day.

Black History Month

This month, our academy has celebrated Black History Month. We delivered an assembly to understand the rationale behind this celebration and initiated our Black History Month competition. Each year group was then allocated time to engage in classroom discussions, exploring a prominent Black role model and the profound impact of their legacy.

Mrs Holt has been astounded by the volume of entries and the extraordinary effort that has been put into the children's research projects so we would like to extend our thank you to all the children and their families.

We are pleased to announce that the winners of our competition are;

Nina 2SK

Asande 6LB

Amara 3MN

Amelia 3MN

Ellie 6LB

Zhuo Yuan 4JJ

Rohan 3MN

Kendal 3HP

Shreena 4OF

Salma 3MN

What a Busy Week!

Mrs Mirazi and the afternoon Forest School groups have been busy den building and carving pumpkins. They created some amazing faces and used the tools to cut the shapes. It is wonderful to see the children helping each other and demonstrating how we succeed together.

As part of our topic on Forces, Year 5 conducted an experiment to see how much friction was created by various materials including foil, cling film, sponge, cloth and beads. One by one, we attached the materials to a shoe then pulled the shoe across a table, measuring the force exerted in newtons. We concluded that smooth materials created less friction than rough materials.

This week, Year 1 have been incredibly busy learning about lots of different things! We celebrated Diwali on Monday and learnt all about the festival.

We also explored greater than and less than using cubes to help us compare!

In Geography, we have been making maps of our classrooms to help people know where to find all of our resources!

Mrs Williams loved doing art with us and we looked at how things turn from 2D to 3D and experimented with different textures!

Craker Lake by Jennifer Killick

Any parents who were fans of the Point Horror books as I was, will get a sense of nostalgia when sharing this book.

There are three rules for surviving Crater Lake: don’t go anywhere with an adult; don’t follow any instructions you’re given; and don’t ever fall asleep…

When Lance’s class arrives at the brand new Crater Lake activity centre for their school trip, it’s immediately clear something is not quite right. Aside from a weird lack of staff and a very odd manager, there’s also the panicked man covered in blood shouting at them all to run.

And it’s not long before the teachers and other kids in his class start behaving strangely too. Like Zombies, they get out of bed and, spaced-out, start marching into the woods at midnight. As they’re unaffected, it’s up to Lance and his friends to uncover the cause – and find a way to stop it. But time is ticking, they’re exhausted, and if they fall asleep, then all will be lost…

Crater Lake is a fast-paced, high action read full of suspense, scares, twists and turns. Alongside the action, there's a strong message about staying loyal to your friends and how to stand up for yourself against bullies, whether they’re mean kids, monstrous teachers – or even body-snatching aliens.

Perfect for ages 9 and above
