Welcome from Co-op Academy New Islington

Dear Parents/Carers,

As with every first week back at New Islington, it has been lovely to welcome back the children after half-term and see the wonderful work going on in classrooms!

I am also very much looking forward to welcoming parents to various consultation meetings in the next few weeks and listening to the views of our community, which will feed into the direction of the academy's strategy in a range of areas.

Inset Day

School is closed on Monday 10th November for an inset day.

Good News and Good Luck!

Mrs Oksana has given birth to a beautiful baby boy! He was born on Thursday. Both mother and baby are doing well!

Good luck to our children who are in the Kenny Karate Club. They are taking part in an inter-club competition tomorrow. We know they will be brilliant!

Good news from our football team. Our Year 5/6 boys excel football team played their first league match of the year against Heald Place Primary School. The boys won 11-0, showing exceptional skills and teamwork. Mr Jackson would like to give a special mention to Mark and Kai from Year 5 as this was their first competitive match for the school.

Parents Evenings

Parents Evening appointments are now able to be booked on Arbor, these can be found under Guardian Consultations.

Reception, Y2, Y3, Y4, Y5 and Y6 will be Wednesday 26th and Thursday 27th November.

Y1 will be Tuesday 25th November and Thursday 4th December.

You will be able to book a 10 minute slot to meet with the teacher to discuss their progress.

Halloween Disco

Thank you to Miss O'Mahony, Mrs Wild and all the wonderful volunteers who helped make the disco such great fun. Events like this take a lot of time planning and preparing to make it run smoothly. Everyone had a wonderful time and we appreciate all your time and hard work to make this happen.

📢 A Big Thank You from the School Nurses! ðŸ©º

We would like to extend a huge thank you to all the parents who joined us for the recent School Nurse Coffee Morning! It was a truly wonderful and informative session. Our school nurses shared valuable insights and practical advice on a range of important topics, including establishing good sleep routines, navigating healthy food and fussy eaters, addressing children's continence and bedwetting, managing head lice, promoting outdoor play, and supporting children's mental health. Your engagement and thoughtful questions made the morning a great success.

We understand that life is busy, so if you weren't able to attend this time, please don't worry—we're planning another session for parents after Christmas. We hope to see you there!

What a Busy Week!

Year 1 have been writing command sentences about how to look after an egg. Year 6 came down to visit so that the children could practice giving their instructions. The Year 1 children instructed the Year 6 children to hold an egg carefully while they read them a story.

Super teamwork from Year 1 and Year 6, well done!

Year 1 have also been learning about their bodies, drawing them on the tables, and labelling all the different parts. They also made fireworks pictures using leaves from Forest School.

Year 6 have started their new History unit on the legacy of Ancient Greece. In our first lesson, we looked at the different periods within the Ancient Greek Period and where it fits within other historical periods. We did this by producing comparative timelines.

  • Rainbow Raffle: We are looking for donations of new items suitable for our themed raffle prizes.

Please see the attached poster for more information on the Winter Fair and specific ideas for the Rainbow Raffle donations.

Until I Met Dudley by Roger McGough

This is a wonderfully hilarious non-fiction book with lovely illustrations by Chris Riddell.

Have you ever wondered how a toaster works? In this fun-filled book of how things work, Dudley, the techno-wizard dog, provides all the answers. Roger McGough’s exciting text and Chris Riddell’s amazing illustrations take the readers from fantasy into the fascinating world of technology in the name of discovering how things work.
