Welcome from Co-op Academy New Islington

Dear Parents and Carers,

At the end of this busy half term, I would like to extend a huge thank you to all staff, parents, carers and children for helping to make our school the wonderful community it is. We have had a very busy few weeks between planting flowers in Manchester, designing charging stations, taking part in eco conferences and so much more!

Thank you for your continued support, we hope you all have a wonderful half term!

Mr Berry

You're Invited- Our Big Lunch Community Event

We’re excited to invite you to The Big Lunch – a special community event at Co-op Academy New Islington on Friday 13th June, starting at 3:30 p.m. straight after school.

This will be held in the school hall and outside (weather permitting), and it's a brilliant opportunity for our whole school community to come together. We’re also welcoming the families of children who will be joining us in Reception this September – we want them to see first-hand what an amazing, welcoming community we are.

We’ll be serving two homemade chillis – one meat and one vegan – with rice and bread rolls. We’re asking families to buy a £1 ticket per person via the Arbor school app so we can gauge interest and know how many people we’ll be catering for.

There’ll be music, party games, and a lovely relaxed atmosphere! Drinks will be available to buy, and a full list of ingredients will be displayed on the day for anyone with allergies or dietary requirements.

We’ll also be asking each year group to donate a specific ingredient nearer the time, so please watch this space for what to bring. These donations mean that everyone plays a part in making the event happen – a true team effort that brings our school community together.

If you’re able to help with cooking, serving, or tidying up afterwards, we’d really appreciate it. Please email me at georgina.wild@coopacademies.co.uk if you can lend a hand – as always, your support makes all the difference.

We can’t wait to see you there!

Healthy snacks made from our school garden

Children have been harvesting delicious lettuces fresh from our school garden and drizzled with a mix of lemon juice and a little sugar, they made their own healthy, refreshing snack for a hot summer's day in Forest School. From the planter to the plate without plastic packaging or a large carbon footprint. We are proud eco-warriors!

A huge thank you to Ammar Tabassum for donating more than a ton top-quality, locally sourced compost to support our garden project!

The Watertower by Gary Crew

Mrs William's Book Recommendation

This is a superb picture book for older children. My year 6 class LOVED this book.

‘Nobody in Preston could remember when the water tower was built, or who had built it, but there it stood on Shooter's Hill — its iron legs rusted, its egg-shaped tank warped and leaking — casting a long dark shadow across the valley, across Preston itself.’

This is the story of two boys, Bubba and Spike and a trip to the water tower one hot summer's day. The illustrations really support the telling of the story. There are lots of hidden aspects to look for and really and show the reader that actually all is not as it seems.

This is a great creepy, science fiction/ horror and mystery. Perfect for ages 10 and up.
