Welcome from Co-op Academy New Islington

Dear Parents/Carers,

As always, the Autumn term is very busy at New Islington! It was lovely to welcome parents to the school for parents evenings this week and discuss the wonderful progress that our children are making.

In addition, the London trip provided a great opportunity for children to experience democracy in action and we are delighted that one of the Lords gave a special mention to how well the children represented our school with amazing behaviour. We are proud, but not surprised, they are such a credit to our school and community!

As always, thank you for your continued support,

Mr Berry

What a Busy Week!

This week, some of our Year 4/5/6 children went on a super exciting trip to London!

We travelled on the train to London (and we had to sit through a long delay!!) but we were so proud of all the children's behaviour.

We had to rush through the tube stations before we saw Big Ben! Then we went and had a Pizza Express lunch!

After that, we went into the Houses of Parliament and had a tour of the building and visited the House of Lords and the House of Commons. We were even lucky enough to watch a couple of debates! We also had a workshop where we learnt all about how bills are made in Parliament.

One of the Lords commented on the excellent behaviour of our children and that they were the most polite children he's ever met!

Thank you to Miss O'Mahony, Miss Dempsey, Mrs Wild and the parents of Leia, Ivy, Linnie-Camille and Nimi for their time and help in making the children get the most out of this very long but brilliant day.

Year 2 have been cutting, sorting and evaluating wrap fillings as part of their DT lessons. After sorting into food groups, they tasted each item and rated it between 1–5 for its taste and it's texture. They will use their findings to make wraps later in the project.

During our DT lesson, Year 6 were smelling and tasting different ingredients that can be included in Victorian style biscuits. We analysed ingredients such as cinnamon and chocolate chips to see how they would affect the taste of the biscuit.

The Gorilla

By Anthony Browne

I love Anthony Browne books. There is something exciting and enjoyable about every single one. Each one follows Anthony Browne’s trademark style with surreal and magical illustrations. This one charming and sensitive story does not disappoint.

This book is about a little girl called Hanna. Her favourite animals are gorillas. All Hannah wants to do is see a gorilla in real life. Sadly, her dad is always too busy to take her to the zoo, so on her birthday she decided to ask for a gorilla of her own.

Perfect for ages 5 and above

Snacks in school

A friendly reminder that we are a nut free school for the safety of a number of children with severe nut allergies in school. Please check any labels carefully and if a child brings in a snack, we cannot always be sure of it's contents unless in it's original wrapper with ingredients listed. If we are in doubt, we will keep the snack aside for you to collect at the end of the day.

We encourage and ask for your support in packing healthy snacks such as fruit, vegetables, cheese or whole grain crackers to keep those energy levels up for learning!

We provide fruit for a snack for children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2

Thank you for your support in this matter
