Welcome from Co-op Academy New Islington

Dear Parents/Carers,

It's continued to be busy at New Islington during our final week of Autumn Term! Between carol services, rock concerts and Christmas dinners, there have been so many positive things going on around school as we have drawn closer to the end of term. In all instances, the children have done us proud and I would like to share some feedback from a recent visitor to the academy that we feel truly represents our whole academy:

"It was a privilege to be part of your career’s discussion/ mock interviews! I was blown away by how enthusiastic the children were to ask questions about our job roles. We had so many questions that really got us thinking. It was clear the students were really thinking about meaningful questions, with one person asking how the bank loans money to people- great curiosity!

Although some children were nervous approaching us to start their interview, they soon gained confidence. The letters were expertly written, with some being so honest and vulnerable. It was a great experience for me to be the interviewer, so thank you for the opportunity.

The school had a wonderful calm presence about it. I could see just how much the teachers respected the children, and the children respected the teachers. What a great culture you have built."

We would like to wish all of you a fantastic Winter Break and Happy New Year!

As always, thank you for your continued support,

Mr Berry

We would like to thank everyone who came along to our recent Winter Fair.

A massive thank you to all the staff and volunteers who made the event such a success. We appreciate all the time you gave and all your hard work.

Goodbye Miss Kourou

Miss Kourou, Bumblebees teacher, is leaving us today for the next chapter in her career. Thank you for all your hard work, we will miss you.

Miss Mackey will be taking over as class teacher for Bumblebees. Miss Mackey is a qualified teacher who has an existing relationship with the children due to being a teaching assistant within the Early Years classes.

Enrichment Clubs

The current enrichment clubs (lunchtime clubs and Mr Fidgeon's art club) have now come to a close.

In the new year, we will send an email about the new clubs that will start the week of 12th January.

Take Care Online this Christmas

These days, a lot of preparation for the festive season and the holiday itself involves the internet – whether it’s for buying gifts or decorations, ordering festive food, sending and receiving online greetings or chatting with friends or family. But because we’re busy and maybe distracted, we’re sometimes less careful than usual, making us open to scams and other online harms … including those using AI to make them more realistic. It’s also a good time to check all your device, social media and app settings ready for the year ahead.

We’d like you to stay safe and confident online up to and over the festive season, so here’s a checklist of things you may be doing online where you need to take extra care.

What a Busy Week!

On Tuesday, we had our Christmas Jumper Day and the Christmas Dinner. All children, whether they had a school dinner or packed lunch, enjoyed a great time with the decorated tables and Christmas crackers adding to the festivities.

Thank you as always, to our catering staff who produced the delicious dinner.

Year 2 finished their topic in DT by making, and of course eating, the wraps they had been planning. They talked about the ingredients, decided which items worked well together, and then made their own wraps.

Over the half term, the Year 5 children have used their creativity and problem solving skills to make a puppet theatre toy. After interviewing Year 2 pupils, they carefully created characters and backgrounds suited to their target audience. Alongside this, they installed a CAM mechanism within their theatre to aid the movement of their puppet.

Here are a couple of photos!

Year 6 have been making Victorian Style Biscuits during their DT topic. The children used the biscuit dough to add their own ingredients. They turned out really well!
