Welcome from Co-op Academy New Islington

Dear Parents/Carers,

We hope all our families had a lovely Winter Break and it has been wonderful to welcome everyone back for the Spring Term!

For our first week back we have been focussing heavily on a theme of "Learn to Learn", reinforcing our behaviour routines and expectations. We have been delighted at the behaviour our children have displayed throughout the week, building on our already strong foundations. For any parents wanting more information on our approach to behaviour, please refer to "The New Islington Ingredients" on the policies page of the academy website.

This half term will be packed with lots of clubs, events and opportunities for our children so please keep an eye out for updates.

As always, thank you for your continued support,

Mr Berry

What a Busy Week!

Year 6 have been completing a computing project called Go IT. Their challenge has been:

“To design a digital solution that will help to tackle a sustainability issue in your community to help to reduce the impact of climate change, creating a greener future for all”

The children worked in groups to generate ideas on how to solve the problems, such as by using AI or creating an app. Well done to the children for coming up with fantastic ideas!

Mrs Williams Recommends

Varjack Paw by SF Said

Varjak Paw is a book about a large cat that lives comfortably in the Contessa’s grand house.

One day a man arrived with his odd black cats. Varjak and his grandfather, the Elder Paw, believe something strange is going on. The Elder Paw tells Varjack to leave and bring back a dog to frighten away the man and his cats. The problem is, Varjak has been a house cat all his life and has no idea what a dog is either.

This is a lovely modern classic of an adventure story by SF Said. It talks about what it is like to be treated differently when you come from another culture and how our friends and family can guide us.

Perfect for ages 8 and above
