Welcome from Co-op Academy New Islington

Dear Parents and Carers,

It's been a busy start to our final half-term of the year and I would like to thank all our year 6 staff and children for making their residential such a rewarding experience.

Our final house competition of the year is also underway. This has been a huge success this year and it's been lovely to see how engaged the children have been in making sure they are in school as much as possible and earning as many dojos as they can to help their house win!

It is also the time of year for transition and we will soon be announcing where teachers will be in the next academic year. Keep an eye out for updates on this as well as the dates for our transition days, where your child will get the chance to be taught by their teacher for next year.

As always, thank you for your continued support,

Mr Berry

What a Busy Week!

Year 4 had a virtual visit from author Struan Murray who’s has written wonderful children’s books including Dragonborn and Secret of the Moonshard. He explained all about how he develops his ideas for his books and the skills needed to be an author!

Huge congratulations to our brilliant Year 3 and 4 STEM Club finalists who took part in the GoIT Competition finals this week! The challenge was a big one: identify a real-world community problem, design a clever app to solve it, and pitch their idea to a live audience.
Worried about the planet, our amazing team tackled global recycling problems. They designed a fantastic, user-friendly app that shows people just how easy it is to recycle, guiding users on what can be recycled and which bins to use.

They presented their idea to experts in their field as well as other Co-op Academies and showed fantastic resilience and presentation skills.

We are incredibly proud of their hard work, creativity, and inspiring community spirit. Way to go, team!

Year 6 visited Winmarleigh Hall for their residential trip. We had a jam packed three days full of activities.

When we arrived on our first day, we were greeted by our group leader before completing our first activities. We had lots of screams on the Giant Swing before using our teamwork and map skills during orienteering. We ended the day having a 'silent' disco, busting some dance moves to the Macarena and the Cha Cha Slide.

On Tuesday, we had another packed day of activities. We reached new heights during the vertical climb and problem solving activities in the forest. After our lunch, our skills were tested during the raft building and archery tag. We finished the evening with marshmallows around the campfire.

Before heading home, we finished our activities off with rock climbing and survivor skills, building shelters in the forest.

Despite the unpredictable weather, the children had an amazing time getting involved in all of the activities and represented New Islington fantastically. The memories from the trip will no doubt be discussed for weeks to come!

More photos of the trip can be found on the Gallery page. More photos will be added next week.

Thank you to Mrs Williams, Miss Ballentine, Miss Bowers and Mr Yip for all their hard work and excellent dancing!
