Badminton Shuttle Stars

Proud moment as pupils feature on national television

On Thursday 29 January, ten of our Year 3 and Year 4 pupils visited the National Cycling Centre in Manchester for a Shuttle Stars event organised by Badminton England.

The event took place alongside the English National Badminton Championship. It gave our pupils the chance to experience a major sporting event up close!

Throughout the day, the children took part in a range of activities and had the opportunity to play badminton with young rising stars who represent England. It was an exciting experience and a great way to build confidence, teamwork and new skills.

The day became even more memorable when BBC Newsround contacted the organisers and asked to film a segment about the event. Our pupils were interviewed and featured in the piece. They also appeared on ITV Granada News!

We are incredibly proud of how the children represented our academy - both on the court and on TV. They showed enthusiasm, confidence and respect. They represented our school brilliantly!

Opportunities like this help our pupils see what they can achieve, both in sport and beyond. Well done to everyone involved.

Joshua Berry, Headteacher, said: “Our children were a true credit to the academy both at the event and in how they spoke to interviewers. We are so proud that they were able to engage with such a valuable experience and share this with others”
