  • Artist workshop with Len Grant​​​​​​​

    Our Year 2 class had a great afternoon with local artist Len Grant. Len came in to talk to the children about his life as an artist, and to bring the curriculum focus ‘Our Community’ to life; Len is a local artist whose work is in our community.

    He shared his work and inspired the pupils to produce their own excellent pieces. Thank you, Len!

    Disco thanks

    We raised an amazing £604 profit on Friday’s Halloween Disco. Many thanks to all our families who supported this event and of course, it could not have happened without the energy and enthusiasm of Courtney, Gloria, Frances and Sarah plus the many helpers on the night. We could not have done it without you!

    Elfridges

    This is a great event – for your children and for you. As a reminder – parents buy a ticket (or multiple tickets)  for £5:00 and then the children can choose a present, and wrap it up and label it so that mums and dads and grandparents can have a surprise gift! Every gift is of excellent quality. Tickets are selling fast so buy yours NOW!

    Monday 7th November Meeting for Year 6 parents at 2:45. Miss Harper will give an overview of the SATs expectations, give examples of the tests, talk about how school is helping your children to be their academic best, and will give hints and tips of things you can do at home.We will share all slides, notes, handouts etc afterwards. 
    Monday 7th November Individual and sibling photographs – please come in usual school uniform and NOT their PE kit.

    Friday 18th November  A return visit from Rob, to undertake bike maintenance and repairs (plus goodie bags to give away) Rob will be here from 3pm so bring your bikes along for a free make-over. 
    Friday 18th November  EYFS (Reception) Parent Information session – focus on Reading. Miss Streeter will run two 30 minute workshops for parents, followed by a Q&A. The sessions will run at 9:00 and 2:45.
    Please look out for the letter with more details, but pop this date in your diary.
    Friday 18th November Choir singing LIVE as part of the BBC Children in Need event at Media City. Watch out for us on the programme!
    Tuesday 22nd November3:30 to 5:00 Year 5 auditions for Les Miserables – see email sent out 14.10.22The production is open to students in all year groups from Year 5 & 6, right up to Year 13, taking pupils from all the Co-Op Academies Trust schools. The production will be staged in the theatre at Coop Academy Manchester during the week commencing 10th July 2023. Roving auditions will come to each school throughout November. Parents buy a ticket for £5:00 and then the children can choose a present, and wrap it up, so that mums and dads can have a surprise gift! You can buy your tickets now.
    Monday 12th December Year 3 Carols and Poems at Angel Square, starting at 2pm.We are really excited to hold our Year 3 concert at the Co-Op HeadQuarters – the amazing Angel Square. For security reasons, parents will only be allowed to attend with pre-booked tickets. The session will be live streamed for those who cannot attend. Look out for the letter and how to get your ticket in November. 
    Tuesday 13th December Key Stage One Carol Concert at 9:30
    Wednesday 14th December Christmas Dinner day. School will pay for all our pupils to have a Christmas Dinner. Those who usually pay for a school dinner will be credited for this meal. Of course, if your child would prefer their usual packed lunch, they can bring this in as usual.
    Wednesday 14th December Christmas Jumper Day: Children can (if they want to) wear a festive jumper and bring in £1:00 for the charity ‘Mind’.

    Following the huge success of Elfridges last year, we are again offering the chance for children to choose and wrap a ‘secret’ present for mum, dad, grandparents.

    So how does it work?

    You go onto the School gateway and buy tickets (£5 each)

    Your child then exchanges this ticket at our Elfridges shop, where they choose, wrap and label a high quality gift to give as a present at Christmas.  

    It’s great fun for the children, and exciting for you – your gift will be excellent quality but a total surprise!

    The following children have been celebrated in our assemblies for demonstrating an understanding of our Ways of Being:

    This week we celebrated the value ‘Be yourself, always’ to showcase our talents. 35 pupils from across the school showed courage and determination to perform in front of the school. It was lovely to welcome in parents to share the show.


    Girls’ Football Team

    Congratulations to our girls who played in their first tournament of the season. You did yourselves, your teammates and our school proud!


    Summer Reading Challenge

    Congratulations to the 70+ pupils who completed the Summer Reading challenge. They will be given a certificate and medal this week.

    Music of the week

    Continuing the wellbeing focus, this week we have all listened to and joined in with ‘Stand by Me’ by Ben E. King.


    Parent Governor Election

    Thanks to the parents who voted in this parent Governor election. A total of 54 parents returned the voting slip before the deadline. The two parents who have been voted onto the Academy Governing Council are Frances Cameron and Gloria Lilley. Congratulations to both, and my thanks to Rick Turner and to Dr El Sayed Salem for their willingness to contribute to the school’s success.  


    Wraparound Bookings

    For parents who use our Wraparound Club, please read the letter that has been sent out. We don’t want to cap our numbers, but will have to do so if parents fail to pre-book and pre-pay. 


    Elfridges

    This event was a huge success last year (thanks to one of our parents, Zoe Mills). It is a great way to raise money for our Library Project, as well as being great fun for the children.

    Buy your tickets via the school gateway – there is no limit on the number of tickets you can buy, but the closing date is 1st December.

    If you want to buy more than one ticket, make separate individual payments. Tickets are going fast – buy yours before 1st December!


    Road safety Awareness

    As part of the Road Safety Awareness campaign, we have arranged for a company called Box Clever to come into school to present a drama show for our Year 5 & 6 pupils focussing on road safety. This show will be in the afternoon of Friday 18th November. Additionally, Rob, from Revolution MCR will return to New Islington to provide free bike maintenance opportunities for our families.

    Bring your bikes along from 3pm on Friday 18th November. 


    Careers Related Learning

    Anyone work in the financial sector or work with money? Do you work with foreign currency, in a bank, in a shop, in pensions, insurance? Do you know about stocks and shares?

    Are you willing to come in for 30 minutes to talk to our pupils about your job?
